The Winzerhof Gierer winery in Nonnenhorn on Bavaria’s Lake Constance has been family-owned for over 300 years. The Gierer family now cultivates over six hectares of vineyards, of which around 70% are planted with white grape varieties. In the pre-Alpine “cool climate” of Germany’s southernmost vineyards, the winery focuses primarily on Müller-Thurgau, but also has Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris and Bacchus in its portfolio. The red wines matured in traditional wooden barrels are primarily Pinot Noir and Cabernet Cortis. The winery’s specialties include rosé and the typical regional Rotling. The vineyard’s soils are mainly gravelly with a humus layer on glacial moraines. In addition to the winemaking trade, the Gierer family is also active in the hospitality industry and offers various accommodation options at the Winzerhof as well as wine tasting opportunities in their own vinotheque.
“The long winegrowing tradition at our winery on Lake Constance in Bavaria shows us how important it is to treat nature, but also the people in and around the business, responsibly. FAIR’N GREEN is the partner we need to take further important steps towards comprehensively sustainable viticulture in the future.”
