Winery Steitz
The Steitz winery is located in the far west of Rheinhessen, in the village of Stein-Bockenheim. Riesling and Burgundy varieties are predominantly cultivated on almost 14 hectares of vineyards. They grow on volcanic porphyry and andesite soils that are almost 300 million years old, which are unique to Rheinhessen and give the wines their special character. In addition to the soils, the HEERKRETZ, EICHELBERG and SONNENBERG vineyards at altitudes of over 260-320 meters above sea level offer particular potential for cool, elegant cool climate wines rich in finesse.
STEITZ wines are individual wines and show a very clear character of origin with minerality and coolness. The best grapes, spontaneously fermented and matured in large wooden barrels – that is Christian Steitz’s maxim. Vinified in this way, the local and single-vineyard wines only reach their full potential after a few years in the bottle and are brilliant accompaniments to food.
In recent years, the historic structure of the winery has been combined with state-of-the-art design in collaboration with the renowned architectural firm “DIA Design” from Darmstadt. The minimalist, modern vinotheque embodies the desire to concentrate on the essentials – the perfect cultivation and maturation of the wines. Outside the winery, a spacious, sheltered courtyard with a lounge area also invites guests to enjoy tastings. A historic rarities cellar offers the best wines from STEITZ perfect maturing conditions and a new above-ground barrel cellar worth seeing rounds off the ensemble of the Steitz winery.

“Only in a strong community can we implement sustainability holistically – that’s why we are a member of FAIR’N GREEN. The comprehensive certification criteria allow us to assess our sustainability efforts. The comparison with similarly structured wineries promotes continuous improvement and ongoing thematic development.”

Philosophy
After 13 years of organic farming, Diana and Christian Steitz became certified organic farmers in 2019. The vineyards are cultivated largely according to the principles of regenerative agriculture, with a strong focus on soil vitality. STEITZ wines will officially carry the organic label from the 2022 vintage.
The combination with the FAIR’N GREEN seal for sustainable viticulture was the next logical step. The holistic sustainable approach of the certification and the endeavor to continuously improve sustainable work goes one step further.
