Winery Schloss Lieser
The Schloss Lieser winery was purchased in the 1990s by Thomas Haag and his wife Ute when it was in need of renovation. With hard work and commitment, the formerly famous winery was rebuilt over the course of the 1990s and established as one of the top German Riesling producers.
The winery now has 26 hectares in the best steep slopes of the Middle Moselle. These are characterised above all by their blue slate weathered soils. The vineyard portfolio combined with natural yield reduction, 100-year-old vines and selective hand-picking in several stages guarantee wines with exceptional ageing potential.

‘FAIR’N GREEN impressed us not only with its sustainability aspect, but also with its holistic approach and its social and cultural components. These aspects were of great importance to us from the very beginning of our winery. As we live with and from nature and should of course always respect it, it is very important to work the vineyards in harmony with nature, as the next generation also wants to successfully continue the tradition and the business. Fairness, respect and loyalty in both interpersonal and business dealings is an extremely important aspect for us, and one that we have repeatedly learnt valuable lessons from in our lives.’

Philosophy
Wines from the Schloss Lieser winery ferment spontaneously with natural yeasts at low temperatures in the 100-year-old vaulted cellar. They are characterised above all by their complexity, elegance and minerality with a low alcohol content. The perfect balance of sweetness and acidity is unique. Spontaneous fermentation brings out the terroir and character of the vineyard in an outstanding way, so Schloss Lieser Rieslings always have their own identity.
The new generation also shares the passion and love of wine and actively supports their parents in the business. While daughter Lara, after studying in Geisenheim and Burgenland and completing several internships abroad, is focussed on sales and export at the winery, Niklas, after completing his training as a winemaker and alongside his oenology studies, diligently assists Thomas in the cellar and outside operations.
