Winery Scherr
The Scherr winery has been a family business since 1782 and is located in Hainfeld on the southern Wine Route. The typical grape varieties of the Palatinate, including Riesling, Scheurebe, Sauvignon Blanc and all Burgundy varieties, are grown on a vineyard area of just over 20 hectares. Gradually, however, various PIWI varieties such as Cabernet Blanc and Blütenmuskateller are also finding their way into the range.
After completing his studies in viticulture and oenology in Geisenheim, Andreas Scherr took over responsibility at the winery in 2002. He focuses on the quality and environmentally conscious production of his wines and insists on a sensitive approach to the vines, the vineyard soils and nature. Good contact with customers is important to the entire team at the winery. Customers are welcomed to wine tastings and events in the vinotheque, which was redesigned in 2018.
“As a business manager and, above all, as a father of three children, I have long been aware of my responsibility for the environment and future generations. That’s why I try to think and work sustainably. However, many potentials have so far been lost in the hectic pace of everyday life or have not been used due to a lack of knowledge. Thanks to FAIR’N GREEN, we are constantly looking for further potential for sustainable development in all areas of our winery, e.g. as a participant in the AmBiTo biodiversity project.”

Philosophy
“He who always does what he can already do, always remains what he already is!” This quote from Henry Ford is something that the Scherr winery constantly reminds itself of in order to question its own claim to sustainable business practices.
As a family man and farm manager, it was particularly important to Andreas Scherr to orient the thoughts and actions of his winery towards responsibility for the environment and future generations. This is why the Scherr winery has been FAIR’N GREEN certified for many years, in order to establish and continuously improve sustainable viticulture in all areas of the business.
