Winery Philipp Kuhn
The Philipp Kuhn winery in Laumersheim has been run by Philipp Kuhn Junior since 1992. The Philipp Kuhn family has been documented as living in Laumersheim since the 17th century.
The vineyards of the Philipp Kuhn estate, which cover 25 hectares, are located in Laumersheim and the surrounding villages of Großkarlbach and Dirmstein. In his cataloging of vineyard sites, Johann Philipp Bronner already attested to the excellent wine-growing conditions in this region in the 18th century.
Together with extremely low yields, 100% grape harvesting by hand, the almost Mediterranean climate of the Palatinate and distinctive limestone loess soils, top wines of a high international standard are vinified here and sustainable viticulture is practiced.
The grape varieties are divided into 50% red varieties and 50% white varieties. The wine is vinified 99% dry. Sweet wines are only produced in particularly suitable years.
“The FAIR’N GREEN system is particularly important to me because customers from the Scandinavian region are increasingly asking about sustainability criteria. Another decisive argument was that, in addition to the environmental criteria, the efficient use of resources is also analyzed and aspects such as a good relationship with employees, fair wages and respectful treatment of one another play a key role.
The FAIR’N GREEN system includes all of these criteria, which is why I see it as a major step forward for my winery and the German wine industry.”

Philosophy
At Philipp Kuhn, the red wines are still produced using traditional methods. The grapes are harvested by hand, sometimes in several stages, from the beginning of October to November. In this way, the winery obtains perfectly ripe and, above all, healthy grapes, which are fermented using the classic mash fermentation method. All red wines are stored in wooden barrels. The storage time is between 16 and 20 months.
The white wines are predominantly matured in stainless steel tanks or old wooden barrels with the help of reductive measures. Here, too, the grapes are harvested by hand.
This elaborate use of manual labor demonstrates the passion that is lived out at Weingut Philipp gut and makes all the wines something very special.
