Winery Mathern
The Mathern Winery has been run in Niederhausen since 1907 and is now in fourth generation. The steep, volcanic slopes around Niederhausen, Norheim, and Schlossböckelheim offer ideal conditions for characterful Rieslings and selected Burgundy varieties. After influential years under Helmut Mathern, Gloria Mathern and her son Henning now run the business. Henning, a trained winemaker and graduate of Geisenheim University, is responsible for the vineyards and cellars. Old vines, careful manual labor, and gentle vinification characterize the style of the winery.

The Mathern family works in harmony with nature out of deep conviction and sees the extraordinary steep slopes and diverse soils of their homeland as a valuable treasure that must be preserved. In the cellar, Henning Mathern has been responsible since 2021 for the maturation of the wines, which age slowly, gently, and at controlled temperatures in stainless steel tanks, developing their clear, delicately fruity style. Sustainability, a sense of responsibility, and fair conditions characterize their daily activities, as does their commitment to offering quality at a reasonable price. This attitude ties in with the premise of Helmut Mathern, whose concept of quality has had a decisive influence on the winery.
