The Karthäuserhof winery in Trier-Eitelsbach was founded in 1335 by monks of the Carthusian order and has been owned by the Tyrell family since 1811. The winery is run by managing director Christoph Horbach and technical director Mathieu Kauffmann. Mainly Riesling and, to a lesser extent, Pinot Blanc are cultivated on around 28 hectares. The vineyards are located on pink-copper-colored clay slate from the Devonian period and are predominantly steep slopes. The Riesling “Eitelsbacher Karthäuserhofberg Spätlese trocken” was favored by the New York Times in 2013 as the best Riesling.
“FAIR’N GREEN gives us the opportunity to work with colleagues to improve sustainability in viticulture and to learn from each other. Viticulture must always be thought about in the long term.”

The aim of the Karthäuserhof winery is to produce wines with an unmistakable character. The wines are light-footed and cheerful, but at the same time multi-layered, complex and profound. This makes them particularly exciting and popular with Riesling lovers far beyond Germany’s borders.
Year after year, the Karthäuserhof does everything it can to preserve the unique character of its Rieslings as unadulterated as possible. This is how it creates unmistakably unique wines
