Winery Karl Pfaffmann
The Karl Pfaffmann winery in Walsheim was founded by Karl Pfaffmann after the end of the Second World War and the first bottled wine was produced there in 1955. His grandson Markus Pfaffmann runs the business, which covers 60 hectares of vineyards. A total of 20 different grape varieties (three quarters white wines, one quarter red wines), including Riesling and Pinot Blanc, are cultivated on loess soils with limestone content. The winery was awarded the Grand State Prize 2022 by the Rhineland-Palatinate Chamber of Agriculture.
“Top wines are only produced through the greatest possible care in the vineyard in harmony with nature. That is why we cultivate our soils sustainably, so that their vitality is preserved – also for future generations of people and vines. The philosophy of FAIR’N GREEN reflects precisely this idea of sustainable viticulture combined with socially responsible action and fair cooperation with employees, customers and suppliers.”

Philosophy
The vines themselves extract the mineral resources that make the wine unmistakable: Minerals, flavors and aromas that are often hidden deep in the earth. The varietal character is not hidden under an exotic, superficial bouquet, but can develop freely with fresh, clear fruit. Riesling tastes and smells like Riesling, Pinot Blanc like Pinot Blanc. This applies to all varieties. That’s how we love our wines and that’s how we want to present them to you. If you stress the vines by asking too much of them, you cannot achieve the best results. So we prune the shoots short so that the vine gives a lot of substance in relatively few grapes. We decide early on which plot is best suited to which quality level. We limit the yield by cutting off and halving the grapes. There are no machines for this, just the skilled hands of the winegrower – a lot of work for more quality.
