Winery Jean Buscher
The Jean Buscher winery was founded in 1844 and has been run by Jean Raphael Buscher in the sixth generation since 2015. After completing his studies in Geisenheim and a number of stays abroad, he took over the reins together with his wife Nicole. Nicole is a trained sommelier and is currently studying viticulture in Geisenheim.
The winery is located in Bechtheim in Rheinhessen and cultivates 12 hectares of vineyards.Healthy vineyards and a self-contained ecosystem are the most important prerequisites for wines full of character. The Jean Buscher winery works according to the principle “As much as necessary, as little as possible”. In order to work for, with and in nature, the aim is to make the vineyards more species-rich than ever.
“Membership of FAIR’N GREEN was the logical step in our development. Sustainable for people, animals and nature is probably the biggest challenge we can set ourselves.FAIR’N GREEN gives us the opportunity to share experiences and gain new food for thought.Together with FAIR’N GREEN, we are able to visibly communicate our sustainability, improve through constant review and find new ways of doing things. Combining the new with the existing is the great opportunity for a generational business to create the best possible effect for people, animals and nature.”

Philosophy
“As much as necessary, as little as possible,” is the philosophy according to which Jean and Nicole Buscher run their winery. For them, wines with a strong character begin in the vineyard itself. Healthy vineyards and a self-contained ecosystem are the cornerstones of characterful wines. This is why they follow the approach of working for, with and in harmony with nature.Nature is simply allowed to be nature, which makes the vineyards particularly species-rich.
They also combine traditional manual labour and modern technology when making wine. Living consciously, respecting nature and giving something back to a monoculture is the highest maxim of the Jean Buscher winery. Since 2015, 19 Ouessant sheep, small French dwarf sheep, have therefore also been used to tend the vineyards all year round. They gently take care of the under-vine care and foliage work in the most natural way.
