The Emil Bauer winery in Landau-Nußdorf in the Palatinate is a family business that has been growing wine for five generations since the 1920s. The brothers Alexander and Martin Bauer took over the winery. The main focus of the Emil Bauer Söhne winery is on very gently matured Rieslings and white Burgundy varieties, as well as the red wine varieties Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, which are matured in granite, steel, wooden or barrique barrels. The vineyards cover around 45 hectares of mostly calcareous loess-loam soils. The wine magazine has voted the Emil Bauer Söhne winery one of the “111 best young German winegrowers” (Stuart Pigott) and was also nominated as “Newcomer of the Year 2014” at the falstaff Wine Trophy. The Bauers were voted one of the best 15 collections of 2014 by the online magazine Gourmetwelten.

At the Emil Bauer and Sons winery, tradition and modernity come together and viticulture is now being practiced with passion and heart and soul in the 5th generation. The focus is on sustainable and creative work. A special feature is not only the eye-catching labels with cheeky slogans, but also the new red grape varieties that are grown here in the Palatinate. The increasingly warm summers have given the brothers Martin and Alexander Bauer the idea of cultivating grape varieties beyond the traditional German varieties, so that Malbec, Petit Verdot, Sangiovese, Barbera and Nebbiolo can now also be found in the Palatinate.
