The Birkert winery has been run by Boris Birkert since 2013, when he took over the business from his father. Since then, he has consistently pursued two goals: Quality and sustainability.
The winery now cultivates around 15 hectares of vines, as well as eight hectares of orchards, runs a distillery and also serves its own wine bar.
Wines from the well-known single vineyards Adolzfurter Schneckenhof and Bretzfelder Goldberg, among others, mature in the wine cellar dating back to 1748. In addition to traditional grape varieties, the Birkert winery specializes in bouquet-rich varieties such as Muskateller, Traminer and Bacchus, but also works with new varieties such as Rotberger, a red wine variety similar to Trollinger.
“Sustainability is more than just lip service for us and has been actively pursued as a corporate goal for over 10 years. Now we are pleased to be able to make this aspiration tangible and to deepen and refine it together with FAIR’N GREEN and its members. We see our business according to the motto of our senior Manfred Birkert: ‘We have borrowed the land and the plants from our ancestors to pass them on to the next generation’. The FAIR’N GREEN guidelines fit perfectly with this statement.”

Sustainability has been a matter close to the heart of winemaker Boris Birkert and his family for years: rainwater is used for cooling in the in-house distillery, the buildings on the winery are heated with wood chips from the orchards and their own forest, organic fertilization and alternating greenery ensure healthy growth in the vineyards.
