Winery Baron Knyphausen
The Baron Knyphausen winery has been run by Baron Frederik Knyphausen, the eighth generation of the Knyphausen family, since 2015. The Draiser Hof has belonged to the Baron Knyphausen family since 1818 and is now home to the VDP Baron Knyphausen Winery and the Baron Knyphausen Estate Hotel.
The Baron Knyphausen winery consistently follows the philosophy of only bottling wines that have a distinct character compared to other wines. The Baron Knyphausen winery only produces late and Auslese wines in particular, as well as the higher quality levels such as Beerenauslese and Trockenbeerenauslese wines, but also dry single-vineyard wines, when the grapes are of the right quality to produce intense, full-bodied wines.

Philosophy
Since the 2021 vintage, the Baron Knyphausen winery has been in the process of converting completely to certified organic viticulture. This means that it no longer wants to work with chemical sprays and wants to work more in harmony with nature. Above all, this is a major concern of the young winery team.
Since spring 2022, there has also been a flock of sheep – the knypSCHAFE – that ‘work’ in the vineyards in the spirit of biodiversity and the biodynamic cycle. In addition to working as natural lawn mowers and keeping the understorey area clear, their tasks also include soil fertilisation. Weeds are just as readily removed as stem shoots and leaves in the grape zone. This ensures better aeration in the foliage and thus directly increases the quality of our grapes. As a positive effect for the soil, the basis of the work of the Baron Knyphausen winery, the animal employees save a few passes with the tractor, which particularly promotes soil life.
