Winery am Nil
Winery am Nil is located in Kallstadt in the Palatinate. The traditional winery has been run by the Schuster family of winegrowers since 1841, before being taken over by the Dr Ana and Reinfried Pohl family in September 2010. Since then, the vineyard on the Nile has been developed into a top wine estate for Rieslings, with a clear commitment to the characteristic features of its vineyards.

“Sustainability, fairness and special care are the foundations of our work in the vineyard and cellar. Not only environmental protection, but also a holistic approach is important to us. We are constantly asking ourselves in which areas we can improve in terms of efficiency and resource consumption. With FAIR’N GREEN, we ensure greater transparency.”

Philosophy
The lion has been the symbol of the village of Kallstadt since the 15th century. The Schuster family of winegrowers, who founded the winery on the Nile in 1841, also chose the Kallstadt lion as their symbol and placed it on their label. Since then, the lion has symbolised strength and dynamism.
These two characteristics are also reflected in the important vineyards of Winery am Nil: the KALLSTADTER SAUMAGEN, the UNGSTEINER HERRENBERG and the UNGSTEINER WEILBERG, which are characterised by their unique terroir.
At the heart of the winery is the historic cellar, where the wines of Winery am Nil are matured. The first section of the cellar was built in 1841 when the Schuster family founded the winery and was extended in 1888 and 1923. After the new company was founded, the buildings were completely renovated and the cellar was equipped with state-of-the-art technology.
The result is an impressive underground complex. Among other things, the coolable stainless steel tanks with a total capacity of 350,000 litres are stored here. In the upper cellar are the wooden barrels, which are used for ageing both red wines and some of the white wines.
Cellar master Till Tempel uses only French barrique barrels (225 to 228 litres) and tonneaux (500 litres), which are medium toasted.
