The Schäfer-Fröhlich winery is a family business that looks back on more than 200 years of winegrowing tradition on the Nahe, is still family-run and the whole family is involved. The winery is now run by Tim Fröhlich and his wife Nicole, supported by his sister Meike and her partner Mats Genheimer. Today, the family business cultivates around 22 hectares of vineyards in the middle Nahe region, including plots in six VDP.GROSSEN LAGEN® vineyards.
The vines of the family vineyard grow almost entirely on steep slopes on very barren, rocky terrain. Around 85% of the vineyards are planted with Riesling and around 15% with Burgundy varieties. The declared aim is to produce wines with finesse and great elegance that also reveal their origin. Almost every step in the cultivation and ageing process is very traditional and is only reinterpreted to improve quality. The Schäfer-Fröhlich winery has been a member of the VDP.Nahe since 2001.
“We decided to become a member of FAIR’N GREEN because it is all about sustainability. In addition to the very important ecological aspect, FAIR’N GREEN also scrutinizes the social and societal aspects as well as healthy business management. As a company, you are put to the test every year and you can continue to develop in every respect. We want to seize this opportunity for further development as part of our responsibility towards nature, our employees, our suppliers, our customers and society.”
