The Meulenhof wine estate in Erden was acquired by the Justen family in 1802 in the course of secularization by Napoleon and has been run as a wine estate ever since. The Meulenhof was first mentioned in documents in 1337. Since 1990, the winery has been run by Stephan Justen and his wife Helma in the 7th generation. The Riesling, Müller-Thurgau, Kerner and Dornfelder grape varieties are cultivated on around 7 hectares of vineyards, the soils are on weathered slate and Rotliegend. The winery has been a member of the Bernkasteler Ring since 1900, making it one of the oldest members.
“As an economic operator of long-term cultures, viticulture has a particular obligation to treat the environment with care. Generations before us have lived off nature and many more generations should continue to do so. The concept of sustainability takes us a step further. Using resources responsibly, treating nature with care.
The FAIR’N GREEN alliance in particular focuses on this idea. Acting together for a future worth living, developing it further and learning from each other. Working together to create opportunities for the future. We also want to follow this path.”

Using resources responsibly and treating nature with care best describes the way the Meulenhof winery works. But it is also involved in social and cultural activities to preserve treasures of the past and make a contribution to society. This is why the Meulenhof winery has also been FAIR’N GREEN certified for several years. The exchange with other wineries and the continuous striving for improvements in all areas of sustainable viticulture are indispensable in order to enable a future worth living for all.
