The Lake Biel wine region is located in the canton of Bern and is part of the Three Lakes Region at the southern foot of the Jura Mountains. On the left bank of Lake Biel, surrounded by steep vineyards, lies the wine-growing village of Twann, home to the Johanniterkeller. The Johanniterkeller is one of Switzerland’s most historic wineries. Founded in the 13th century by the Order of St. John, the estate was secularized in 1528 and taken over by the state of Bern. In the mid-19th century, it became the property of the Hubacher family, who have been running it ever since.
“For us, wine is craftsmanship, tradition, and a piece of home that we want to preserve. This includes fair working conditions for our team, responsible treatment of nature, and the certainty that we are running our business in a sustainable manner. FAIR’N GREEN is a perfect fit for us because it supports our values: honest work and responsible action.”

Martin Hubacher
Martin Hubacher’s passion and goal is to get the best out of the soil, climate, and vines. He has been running the business together with Michaela Gabriel since 1996. During this time, they have succeeded in establishing Johanniterkeller as one of Switzerland’s leading wineries, which is reflected in awards such as „Berner Winzer des Jahres“ (2018 and 2025) and „Schweizer Weingut des Jahres“ (2021). Today’s factory building stands on the foundations of the original Johanniterkeller, while the business has been continuously modernized and adapted to current requirements. The Johanniterkeller’s 6.5 hectares of vineyards are spread between Le Landeron and Wingreis. The slopes, with gradients of up to 50%, are dominated by the brown calcareous soil typical of the Jurasüdfuss. This ensures high minerality and fruity, expressive wines.
