The Blankenhorn winery in the Marktgräfler Land region was founded in 1847 by Johann Blankenhorn and has been managed by Martin Männer since July 2014. The winery is located in Schliengen in Baden and has an area of 23 hectares. Here, wine is seen as a living cultural asset and is produced with passion, especially for the region. The VDP member winery is known above all for its Chasselas, the classic grape variety of Baden. The vineyards, some of which are very old, are rooted in deep and heat-retaining loam and limestone marl soils with a high clay content. In addition to estate wines such as Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir and Merlot, the Blankenhorn winery also produces fine brandies, vinegars and bottle-fermented sparkling wines. The Blankenhorn winery is the first Fair and Green e. V. member from the Baden wine-growing region and therefore also the first from Baden-Württemberg.
‘In a company that has been in family hands for many generations, sustainable values are not an empty promise, but a living culture. I became a member of Fair and Green so that this lived culture is also documented.’

Wine is considered a natural product for the vineyard, which matures into a great drink with the help of the right cultivation techniques. In their opinion, this requires concentration: Concentration. That is why the winery only cultivates a few grape varieties, on which the full concentration lies.
When pruning, attention is paid to consistent yield reduction in order to optimise quality. The grapes are harvested several times in the vineyard, as only the best grapes are selected. Manual labour and intensive use of time are essential in these and all other work steps. In the cellar, there is no mechanical intervention at the expense of the natural character of the wines. After the barrels have matured, the wines are blended from the individual barrels in such a way that they fulfil the winery’s vision: complex, aromatic, intensely mineral, elegant.
